Finding Your Core
One undeniable truth in life is the inevitability of change. "If you do not actively instigate change, change will shape you." The more you attempt to resist it, the more challenging life becomes. There's no escaping it; change is relentless. It won't hunt you down or harm you, but it will compel you to reevaluate your life and make those tough decisions.
Life always has a way of springing unexpected situations upon us, whether we've meticulously planned for them. Regardless of how much of a control freak you may be, you'll inevitably find yourself facing bewildering and unsettling changes that are beyond your control.
How would you feel if, over the next five years, you remained exactly as you are, doing the same things you're doing now? It's akin to holding onto a keypad phone in the age of smartphones and high-tech gadgets – you risk becoming outdated and less relevant. In today's rapidly evolving world, the ability to adapt swiftly to change is a key driver of success.
Technology, people's aspirations, and the job landscape are all evolving at an astonishing pace. You don't want to find yourself playing catch-up with a generation that's progressing exponentially in all aspects of life. So, it's high time to embrace change, both within yourself and in the world around you.
Change comes in various forms. Environmental changes, like travelling, offer opportunities to explore new experiences and cultivate an open mind. You might encounter things you were once taught to be unacceptable but discover that they are, in fact, liberating. Such experiences open your eyes to the beauty and diversity of the world.
At times, when you're feeling utterly exhausted and the allure of staying in bed all day beckons, it takes that extra ounce of effort to rouse yourself and either hit the gym or simply step out of the house. But once you do, you'll find that the environment’s energy permeates your being, and you end up having a more rewarding time than you initially imagined. This is the kind of change we ought to seize control of from time to time. Even something as simple as tidying your workspace and organising things can work wonders.
It's time to dispel the negative connotations often associated with the word "change." Change is too frequently misunderstood as "replacement."
"If things don't work out, we'll need to make big changes."
"If Harsh doesn't score enough runs this time, we'll have to go back and change things up."
The impact, the emotional journey through it, and the outcome on the other side are all unknown. That's why change can be daunting. It implies venturing into the unfamiliar, beyond our comfort zone, where things are easy and secure. Why would we want to leave this content place?
The answer is that things might get even better. There are experiences you'll never encounter unless things change. So, don't be afraid of it. A whole new world is waiting for you. You're never too old or too young to embrace change and eschew complacency. Take those risks and embrace the beauty of what's different.
And always remember what forms the core of your being. It's what defines who you are. Change may make us feel untethered, as though we're drifting in the wind, but we can find our anchor and remain rooted in our core. May your core, such as your connections with your family, your values, or your commitment to serving others, remain steadfast amidst all the changes around you.
