Somewhere deep within you, I acknowledge that you have the potential to achieve more and deserve more in life. However, your own laziness and mental fog have been holding you back. The frustrating part is that you watch these motivational videos, experience a surge of motivation, and make grand promises to yourself. Yet, after just a few days or even hours, you find yourself drifting back into a state of inaction, and I start berating myself for my lack of consistency.
Do this: Take a step back to analyze why you've been unable to follow through on the lessons from those motivational videos, you will realize that it's challenging to become your best version by simply dreaming and attempting to emulate someone else's definition of the best version.
Let me clarify that I'm not questioning the value of the videos you've watched. They offer insights and inspiration that can be incredibly valuable. However, the crux of the issue lies in the fact that, all too often, we innocently or naively disregard the critical step of defining what we truly want. Instead, we stumble upon a compelling YouTube video or read a book that outlines a path to living your best life, showcasing a person who went from rags to riches by applying "these exclusive five techniques." It's enticing, but it can be a trap.
The problem lies in our inclination to follow someone else's footsteps without first taking the time to deeply understand our own desires and aspirations. It's vital to recognize that the journey to becoming your best version is a highly individualistic one, shaped by your unique dreams and ambitions, rather than a one-size-fits-all formula.
The truth is, no one possesses the exact set of hacks or techniques to enable you to live a fairytale existence. However, what they can certainly sell you is the enticing notion that by replicating their journey, you can become a character in your very own dreamland. I don't mean to be harsh, but this is the unvarnished reality.
We often become so entranced by the paths others have taken to achieve success that we neglect the essential process of self-examination: What do we genuinely want, and how can we attain it?
It's truly that straightforward. You don't require a bestselling author, a YouTuber, or even me to instruct you on how to find happiness, maintain focus, or achieve success. What you truly need is to connect with yourself, to ascertain your desires and the means to fulfil them. However, it's often quite the opposite. Instead of consulting our own inner compass, we pick and choose the cherries from other people's lives, adopting their dreams as our own and labouring strenuously to accomplish them. This approach typically leads to two significant consequences:
The process becomes so miserable that you start doubting your worth. The process becomes the worst nightmare of your life because you are trying to live someone else’s dreams. When you burn yourself out for a goal that you never set from within, it automatically makes you sad and depressed.
Even if you achieve that goal, you won’t find yourself in happiness because you lost everything for what you never wanted in the first place.
So, how can we break free from this pervasive trap that we unknowingly find ourselves in? Let's explore some solutions:
Do You Have A Vision Board?
If I were to ask you to envision your dream life, what would it look like? Take a moment to contemplate this question, and try to conjure every intricate detail of the life you imagine. The truth is that most people struggle to articulate these details, and when they do, their dreams are often reflections of external influences.
Many of us complain about life's unfairness and the misalignment of our desires with reality. But let me pose this question: Are you being fair to life?
You possess the extraordinary ability to imagine the best for yourself, but what have you been envisioning? What I know for certain is that we can't possess what we don't dream of. Here is what I tell my students: Pause. Let go of your past, and have a heart-to-heart with your inner self. Ask yourself how you genuinely want to live your life. What do you desire? What does your best life look like?
Once you've unearthed these answers, create a vision board for yourself. Hang your vision board in your room and remember to recite positive affirmations—statements that empower and strengthen you, affirmations that align with your dream life.
It's important to note that our subconscious mind doesn't distinguish between reality and the ideas and images we conjure. When you repeatedly reinforce a belief or visualization, your subconscious mind processes it as a reality, and it works to manifest that image, whether it's a positive or negative one. When you immerse yourself in images and affirmations that reflect what you aspire to have and who you want to become, your life begins to transform to match those desires and images. The law of attraction is at play here, delivering to you whatever you consistently focus on.
The choice is yours. Do you wish to manifest your dream life, or do you want to spend your days envying someone else's life? It's all within your grasp to decide and create the reality you desire.
Affirmations:
The external world is brimming with distractions, and no matter how intelligent you may be, it's easy to become entranced by the glitter of what others possess. There are times when you can find yourself drowning in the desire to acquire more clothes or the latest tech gadgets.
When social media influencers churn out"must-have wardrobe items," you may feel an intense urge to make those purchases. Why does this happen? It occurs because you can't constantly be a vigilant observer of your own mind, nor can you exert control over your thoughts every moment of the day. That's precisely why it's of utmost importance to set clear affirmations and reminders for yourself, focusing on your choices, your dream life, and your core values. Otherwise, you risk being swept away in the sea of other people's lifestyles and desires.
Journal Every Day:
I can never underestimate the impact of journaling in my life because it has been my means to understand myself better and monitor my emotional state. I don't concern myself with who is or isn't by my side, or how much money I've made. What matters most to me is how I feel. I've made it a daily ritual to engage in at least one activity that brings pure bliss and joy to my heart. Yes, some people have been challenging to deal with, but you have to be your own support system, so that no matter how tough your day was, you can always return to yourself to find peace and joy.
How can you achieve this?
Begin with journaling. Document your progress and your emotions. Write down what you're feeling and why you think you're feeling that way. Essentially, release everything you're experiencing before it accumulates and becomes more overwhelming. When you pour out your emotions onto paper, you gain a sense of clarity and feel lighter, as if a heavy weight has been lifted from your heart.
