Why do you start being happy by thinking about a girl/boy, checking out new videos on YouTube or surfing social media for long hours. Because these things relax your brain as you are giving it the entertainment it wants. You feel alive and excited because you’re laughing and enjoying. And your brain thinks that is healthy. Therefore you enter in that happy mood and don’t want it to stop. The next thing, without thinking, without caring for your time, you start a marathon. You keep wasting endless time on such things from YouTube to Facebook, to links, pics and texts, it goes on and on, and even though you’re doing it every day, it never gets boring because the content is new. There is new content every day which successfully keeps you interested for hours. And your brain thinks, well, happiness and laughter are much better than stress and pressure from hard work. Hence, you find yourself every day wasting your time on such unproductive things.
Why is it difficult to stop ?
Because there exists no control. There is no particular goal or a point at which you would say yes I have finished watching all youtube videos and surfing all content on FacebookEvery dayYouTub. Everyday there is new content, you click one video and you are lost for hours. Where is the control ? It does not exist because these are not tangible physical places where somebody could stop you from going.
Another reason you don’t stop or can’t stop is because there is no limit to happiness after which you say, well, that’s too much feeling happy and positive. This is a endless cycle.
There are problems associated with such happiness and entertainment:
Such happiness is momentary. The moment the video or clip ends, you’re not happy anymore. To continue feeling happy, you have to keep watching content, which takes hours away from you.
You know you have to work to sustain yourself. You have desires that need hard work to fulfil. You want to achieve things. You have a vision in your mind of your own future. You have fantasies about the life you wanna live. And all these things are getting crushed under your habit of escaping work by choosing momentary happiness. This makes you worried.
So here are your very real solutions,
You have two options: momentary happiness or hard work. You can manage the two. You can completely discard one. You can do whatever based on a real assessment of how much work does your dream require!
Nobody is coming to help you. Nobody. If you were confused all this while regarding why can’t you work and turn around your life, you now have your answer. It is only you who can help yourself come out of this situation. Waiting for someone to rescue you is like fooling yourself.
The only help you can get from others is that they can remind you of your dreams, and goals, some people can go to an extent and help clear your doubts by being honest and sharing the truth, but beyond that, you’re completely on your own.
Self control. You need to consciously decide how I am going to spend my time. Do I have some time left for YouTube/ movies? That’s a good question. If you are in the middle of a content marathon, ask yourself, was I supposed to be working right nowself-control? If yes, then get out. Stopping that video, shutting your phone down, and then getting to work is self control. By doing so you have controlled your behavior. Doing this is hard because your brain hates it and will revolt. This is the time you discipline your brain at that very moment. Tell your brain, this might seem boring to you but this is necessary for my future. As you keep doing this your brain will eventually stop complaining. Take control of your behavior and be in charge.
The sooner you implement above-mentioned, the steps, better the chances at achieving all you want in your life. Your life is no joke, stand up and take charge of it.
