You Can Still Dream.
If you’ve thought “I don’t have any goals,” then the answer will probably be “no.” Examine that “no.” Why is it that your future isn’t a happy one?
Yesterday on my WhatsApp status, We’ve taken a good, solid look at why you might not have any dreams, but the question still remains: how can you begin to dream again?
Last year, I was invited to speak with some teens about building a purposeful future. The first thing I asked was: “What would you say if I asked what your purpose is?” And I am asking you the same now.
It’s a hard question, I know. And there are far too many people trying to tell you it will just “come to you” and to focus on “raising your vibrations” or finding some vague kind of inner peace. Lol.
Self-help gurus are out there preying on your insecurities to make money and selling you techniques which really don’t work for achieving your dreams.
It’s hard to dream big and find purpose in life when you’re being hit with so many different claims.
You can end up trying so hard and not finding the answers you need that your life and dreams begin to feel hopeless.
You want solutions, but all you’re being told is to create a perfect utopia inside your own mind. It doesn’t work.
Well, here are some steps that you can take to find your passion:
Question Yourself
So you think you don’t have a passion? I’m here to tell you that you just might — but you simply don’t know it. Asking yourself these questions can help you cut through the confusion. own mind. It doesn’t work.
What do you love to talk about?
The first time I started online, I talk about personal development a lot and also about relationships. Now ask yourself: What’s that one thing that you can ramble about for hours? The topic that you can talk, talk, and talk without feeling bored.
Whatever that topic is, it’s clearly important to you. Examine why that is. What about that topic do you find so interesting?
Keep exploring. What’s important is that you continue to dig into that topic, even if it doesn’t feel realistic at first.
What do you read about?
I am a voracious reader, especially on personal development. Is there a specific topic that you find yourself obsessively reading about?
Allow yourself to be immersed in what you enjoy. Your passion will organically flow from it.
What are you good at?
I was enrolled into a computer hardware academy by my Dad because he felt I was good at dismantling engineering stuff and getting them fixed, lol. Well, I found my mark and spent three years, becoming a computer hardware engineer and I would go ahead to venture into software engineering.
It’s true that what you excel at doesn’t always equal your “passion,” but it’s worth examining your strengths. When you’re very talented at something, people will often look to you as an expert. Experts can demand higher pay. Higher pay = financial freedom. Financial freedom = more time to make yourself a more well-rounded individual.
Get healthy
Get eight hours of sleep a day. Stop the crap of saying “Successful people don’t sleep.” Let your brain breeeaafff. Sleep well to make your mind get settled and start eating food that’s good for your body and your brain.
I understand that not everyone’s schedules + studies + work allow them to fully realize these goals, but that doesn’t mean that you cannot make an effort to become more healthy.
Think about where your life is currently heading.
Look at your present situation. Now, imagine what your life will be like in five years if you don’t make any changes.
Is it what you want? Are you happy with that outcome?
If you’ve thought “I don’t have any goals,” then the answer will probably be “no.”
Examine that “no.” Why is it that your future isn’t a happy one?
Figure out what exactly is that fulcrum of unhappiness, and then backtrack to the present. Then, examine the ways that you can make changes to ensure that piece of unhappiness does not come to fruition.
Figure out your priority
That’s a priority in the singular. We hear all the time “Get your priorities together,” “Our priorities are…”
No. Priority means “something given or meriting attention before other competing alternatives.”
To me, this signifies that “priorities” is impossible. You can’t have “many things” given attention before “competing alternatives.”
We are linear creatures. We can only work on one task at a time. That task, by default, is the priority. So I want you to figure out your priority. Not your “priorities.” What is the one, singular priority for you? What is the one thing that you want to give your attention to before anything else?
Once you’ve figured that out, you can begin identifying the necessary steps to make that priority a reality.
Set a goal
Once you have a priority, it’s time to figure out how to make that into a reality.
The way you do this is through setting goals. These goals function as steps that you can take that will ultimately lead to your priority coming to fruition.
Lost? Divide your goals up into smaller goals.
Say that your priority is to learn a good skill within the next five months.
Your goal is to get a skill that is good and will keep you productive.
Your smaller goals could be:
redo your resume
Go to Youtube/Udemy/ Coursera/ Find a teacher
Create a timetable.
And set daily learning goals
This way, you create a logical, followable blueprint to achieve success. It’s not a mysterious, magical process. It’s breaking it down into actionable steps and then following through.
Seek help
As social beings, we aren't designed to navigate life in isolation. When it comes to discovering our passions, seeking outside assistance can be beneficial.
This support can come from various sources, such as discussing with a friend, consulting a mentor, or attending therapy sessions. Each of these avenues provides valuable advice and guidance, assisting you in finding your path and aligning your life in a meaningful direction. Embracing such support can be instrumental in helping you uncover and pursue your passions.
You Can Still Dream.
Discovering that you lack dreams or passions might initially feel daunting, but it's an opportunity for growth. Why? Because this realization prompts you to make a positive change. You've come to understand that you were living your life according to someone else's expectations.
Now, you have the chance to embrace life for yourself. Take the time to explore and understand yourself better. Engage in activities that bring you joy and identify your priorities. Your passion is within you; it just needs to be rediscovered.
The responsibility lies with you to delve deep and uncover it.
